This research project investigates perceptions of students and instructors who participated in a course project in Winter 2021 for Dr. Latulipe’s COMP 7570 course on Computer Science Pedagogy and Educational Technology. In this course, students participated in a group project that involved being assigned to a Computer Science instructor, analyzing that instructor’s course materials for a particular course, then observing class sessions and conducting an interview with that instructor. The purpose of this current study is to investigate the pedagogical value of that project for the students who participated, and to understand the perspectives of the instructors who granted the interviews and provided access to their materials and classes. We want to understand what worked well and what didn’t work well in this project, and then disseminate that information (through conferences or journals on CS education), so that other CS Ed researchers can replicate or adapt the assignment at their institutions.
